First week back

We had our first test of the year on cable selection and maximum demand this week. I felt that the test went really well. I feel like the study that I did helped me a lot with it.

This week we also did Lighting and wired up some different types of lights. First we did Incandescent Filaments then moved onto fluorescent lighting. Once we worked out the fluorescent lighting diagram we were able to wire up sodium, mecurary vapor and metal-halide bulbs. Here is a picture of one I did...

Single Phase Boards

We started out with a blank board like this

Then we were given a book that had details of what we needed to create
. (a single phase house installation) We were then given the correct parts to
achieve the objective. I sta
rted out by laying put my wall in pe
ncil. Then I put up the flush boxes and other components.

The Next thing I did was wire up my switch board as per the diagram we received in a hand out. At first i wired the
RCD's in wrong with the feed going the wrong way. But after a discussion with the lecturer this didn't matter but best practice was to do it as per the wiring diagram on the RCD. So i re wired my switch board. Here is the final product.

After this I ran
wires and connected up components such as lights, GPO, Range etc. Then I finished off by running the wires for the Meter board. Here is the Fina
l product.

Last couple of weeks of the term

Well in the last couple of weeks in the term I managed to accomplish a lot. I managed to nearly finish my wiring board and learnt a lot about cable selection and maximum demand!
I have been doing a little bit of study over the holidays and that has help a bit. I have also decided to update my blog :D

I have uploaded some images in a different post of my board as a work in progress.
